📖 What are Relative Pronouns?
We use relative pronouns to connect two sentences or clauses. They help us give more information about a person, thing, or place without starting a new sentence.
Common relative pronouns: who – which – that – where
Examples from movies:
- 🎬 This is the man who saved the world. → هذا هو الرجل الذي أنقذ العالم
- 🎬 I watched a movie which was very exciting. → شاهدت فيلمًا كان ممتعًا جدًا
- 🎬 She is the girl that I met yesterday. → هي الفتاة التي قابلتها أمس
- 🎬 This is the place where we met. → هذا هو المكان الذي التقينا فيه
💡 Quick Tips:
• who → للناس
• which → للأشياء
• that → للناس والأشياء
• where → للأماكن
This is the man who saved the world. (الرجل الذي أنقذ العالم)
I watched a movie which was very exciting. (فيلم كان ممتعًا)
She is the girl that I met yesterday. (الفتاة التي قابلتها)
This is the place where we met. (المكان الذي التقينا فيه)
The book that you gave me is amazing. (الكتاب الذي أعطيتني إياه)
Relative Pronoun – A word that introduces a relative clause (e.g., who, which, that, where).
Clause – A group of words with a subject and a verb.
Antecedent – The noun that the relative pronoun refers to.
Restrictive Clause – Essential information (no commas).
Non‑restrictive Clause – Extra information (commas around it).
