❓ Discovery questions (discuss with a partner):
- What tense is used after if? (past perfect)
- What comes after the comma? (would have + past participle)
- Do these sentences talk about the past, present, or future? (past)
- Are the situations real or imaginary? (imaginary – they didn’t happen)
We use it to talk about imaginary past situations – things that did NOT happen, and their imaginary results.
Structure:
If + had + past participle, would have + past participleUse: regret, relief, or criticism about the past.

🎯 Target sound: /ɪ/ – short, relaxed vowel like in "it", "big", "sit".

💡 Tip: The short /ɪ/ sound is very common. Practice with a relaxed, short vowel – don’t stretch it like "ee".
