Step 6: Read the funny story

Emma wakes up at half past eleven at night. She is very hungry. There is no food in her kitchen. “What time is it?” she asks. She looks at her phone. It is quarter to twelve. “The bakery closes at midnight!” she says.

Emma runs to the bakery. She arrives at five minutes to twelve. But the bakery looks dark. There aren't any lights inside. Emma looks through the window. There is a big cake on the counter. There are many colorful donuts next to it. Her mouth waters.

🍩 Suddenly, Emma sees something strange. There is a person inside the bakery! The person wears a baker's hat. But the bakery is closed! “Is there a thief?” Emma whispers.

Emma calls the police. Ten minutes later, a police car arrives. It is ten past twelve. Two police officers look inside. They start laughing loudly.

“What happened?” Emma asks. The officer smiles. “There is no thief. There is only Mr. Johnson, the baker. He stays late every night to make fresh bread for the morning. He is baking croissants right now!”

Mr. Johnson opens the door. He invites Emma inside. There are warm croissants and hot chocolate. “You are my only customer at midnight!” he laughs. Emma eats a delicious croissant. It is half past twelve. She goes home happy and full.
